Of all the Valentine legends I’ve heard, my favorite is the one that martyred St. Valentine because he secretly married Roman soldiers against the order of the Emperor Claudius. It seems that after Romans lost their patriotism, their pietas, and had to be coerced into fighting for what was once the republic, the imperial administration banned marriage for soldiers so that they would have nothing to come home to. Valentine married those who understood the sacrament, and was executed. A true Christian and patriot! My wife of 48 years left a card for me this morning, “I Love How You Love Me.” Say to everyone you see today, “Be My Valentine!”
