NPR Does Something Right

Diane Rehm has selected Wendell Berry’s novel Hannah Coulter as the “Reader Review” book for November. The program will air on Wednesday, November 24 at 11 a.m.

FPR’s own Jason Peters will be live in the studio providing commentary. Let’s hope they use at least an eight second delay. He arrives on Tuesday, and will be keeping company with a certain disreputable Georgetown professor on the eve of his appearance. Let us know if you’re willing to pick up our bar tab.

Meantime, if you live in the DC area and have a daughter, keep her well guarded until Peters leaves town on Wednesday.

  1. NPR takes a beating from conservative circles, and I understand why. Still, their non-political programming totally destroys the vast majority of commercial radio programming… they do a lot of things right, really.

  2. My local NPR station has been unfunded by our governor – Christie. All the staff got their pink slips yesterday – including the one and only NJ based TV station – no more NJ news, i depth analysis of various events and issues in NJ.

  3. My title was tongue-in-cheek, and I hope does not detract from the actual content of my post – an hour devoted to a nationally-syndicated radio discussion on Wendell Berry’s marvelous novel “Hannah Coulter”! This is reason to celebrate, and tune in.

  4. It’s a good thing the Episcopal “bishop” had read only Hannah Coulter or she would have recognized how ridiculous in light of Berry’s overall work the feminist empowerment reading she was trying to overlay on the text was and we would have suffered through a very different conversation. Thanks to her ignorance of how much she would have to condemn Berry for it was actually a very nice discussion.
