My review of an important new book by the midwestern historian, Jon K. Lauck, appears in the new issue of National Review. I’ll have more to say on western and southern regionalism in the near future; for the moment you may enjoy reading about Lauck’s fine defense of the apple of God’s eye. You can reach the article by way of my website here, or directly by clicking here.
It has been rewarding to watch Lauck’s work over the last several years as he has sought to build onto the old foundations of the Midwestern spirit and in this important way to relocalize American culture and everyday life.
Also please see my review of the same book on VoegelinView at https://voegelinview.com/the-midwest-the-region-that-made-america/ (and there is no paywall either)!
